A SHORT NOTE : LEE KUAN YEW'S VISIT

It was quite a meaningful experience when a leader of city-state Singapore visited us on June 12.

Lee Kuan Yew is well known to many of us, especially for his contribution in building a modern Singapore, including his style of leadership which has been the subject of varied interpretation to different people.

The relationship with Malaysia is surely the most interesting part. I'm certain LKY would never brush aside the significance of the Malaysia-Singapore ties.

His recent visit clearly indicated his nostalgic reminiscing of what was, besides his interest of wanting to learn more about the current political landscape in post 2008. In one of the conversations, he mentioned about the need to strengthen the relationship between the younger generations of both countries.

During his time, he said, relationship was based more on social rather than diplomatic relations. This is because Malaysia and Singapore have a lot in common, in addition to sharing social and historical affinity.
